Home improvement projects were another priority during
October. After two- and one-half years out in the sun our mirador table and
chairs needed some TLC. |
Enrique, our handyman spend a couple of days scrapping, sanding,
and painting and got the table set back in great condition. |

October began with LCS hosting a Concert in the Park called
On the Dance Floor, where the audience were encouraged to get up and dance. |
During a trip to Guadalajara for Larry to see an
Ophthalmologist, we took time to shop at IKEA. After two hours, we left with a
salt and pepper shaker and a garlic press. |

Bernice and Bernabe took us to a great restaurant
overlooking Lake Chapala and Mt Garcia. It was fun getting reacquainted after
our 2-1/2 year hideous. |
Ajijic hosted a "No Kings Rally" in the central plaza. Speakers,
music, and others carrying signs of protest. |

These flowers survived our absences. Since Glorine has been
back, they are back to full display. These plants grow year around in our
subtropical climate. |
Lake Chapala, the largest freshwater lake in Mexico, overflowed
its banks this season following the rainy season. This building is on stilts, so no
flooding. |

This used to be a parking lot for cars, but with the flood
waters, a weed known as "Lirio" bunched up on the shoreline. It is still a
good place to park horses. |
Glorine's article ran in the Guadalajara Report, which focused
on the program she started at the height of COVID and has run ever since. |

We stopped by a casino nearby and Glorine took in this big
win! It looks large but when we convert these winnings from pesos to dollars
it comes to $93.71. |
As surprising how far this money went. Glorine took most of her
winnings and bought bags of candies for the upcoming Halloween Festival at LCS. |

Prepping for the Halloween Festival included making lots of
ghosts and witches which were hung throughout the LCS campus |
An old dish towel gave up the ghost to become a ghost with lots of glue and
flannel. Candles were used to light them up for display. |

The Halloween Party began at 3:00 on Sunday, October 26.
Over 250 kids and their parents showed up at the LCS campus for fun and
treats. |
There were 17 games to keep them entertained from painting to
bean bag toss, to Piñatas, to popping balloons, to three-legged races. |

|
The Piñata was a hit, and these kids knew how to do it. It was
interesting parents would sing a song and when the song ended, the kids
would put the stick down. |
About two dozen women dressed up as witches and danced to three
songs. The last song, the kids were invited to join in on the dancing. They had fun! |

|
About 150 kids took part in a Contest. Three finalists were
selected from different age groups and the grand winner (the straw man) won
a cell phone. |
The last treat was TRICK OR TREATING. Five tables were spread
throughout the campus, where kids went to get candy for their treats. No
tricks! |

Along with the Ghosts and Goblins, Larry created this
cemetery
in Spanish. Translated two of them were HERE LIES LORENZO--WE THINK and THIS SPACE
FOR RENT! |
This is the fourth year, they included this "Before I Die Wall"
where members and guest would write what they wanted to do before they die. The three-sided board was filled with wishes |

To prep for the Celebration of Life Ceremony, we cut baskets
of petals off these Marigolds. They were spread on the walkway for
the celebration. |
Making alters to honor those that have died is a long standing
tradition in Mexico. In addition to flowers, most would have the deceased
favorite food, drinks, the things they enjoyed doing. |

This altar was built by the Rainbow Coalition and included
dozens of people who have passed in recent years. |
Here the Marigold petals were scattered on the runway up to the
stage where stories, and poetry were read and music was song. |

Lastly, fireworks were sent into the sky and over 200 memory
card placed in a large bowl and burnt in honor of loved ones no longer with
us. |
While the ceremony was going on, volunteers lit candles
that were place in these luminaries that had names of loved ones written on the
side. Just awesome! |
