Here Glorine is flying on a powered hand glider
(also known as a trike ultra-light). She said it was exciting beyond belief.

September was filled with festivities to commemorate Mexico's
Independence Day, which is like a month long party. Bernice and her neighbor joined
us for one of these events, called Fiesta Mexicana, hosted by LCS.
Forklorial Dancing has become a long tradition for Mexican
festivities and these youngsters did an awesome job entertaining us. Since coming
to Mexico, this has become one of our favorites.
Mariachi music was first created in the state of Jalisco and
is now recognized throughout the country as a pillar of their national
identity and cultural heritage.
Mostly, they are made up of string, song, and trumpets
music. While men once dominated this music in the
past, it is now seeing wonderful changes.
This unmanned balloon is one of dozens flying in the Ajijic
Balloon Regatta on Independence Day. Made of paper and glue, some reach 65'
tall. A huge soccer field was filled with balloonists and spectators.
Near the Regatta, we attended a jazz concert with musicians from
Italy, Brazil, and Mexico City. A balloon fell on a tree, lit it on fire, but
was extinguished by the time the musicians when on stage. All went well.
The Malecon along Lake Chapala was filled with people taking
in the festivity along the beach. Vendors helped by proving food and libation
for all to enjoy!
The "Sun n Set" courts opened with a soft opening and all eight
pickleball and two racquet ball courts were filled for the day. They will have
a grand opening soon.
When we bought the house in 2017, we had no A/C or heater.
Since then, we have installed two split units along with a six-panel solar system.
Now we are adding a third unit to our sunroom.
We exchanged a small unit from the living room and
installed it in our sunroom and replaced it with this two-ton unit. Our electric
bill should remain about $1.25 every two months and will keep the house very
comfy.
For the biggest adventure of the month, we want you to meet
Louise. She turned 90 and is a part of the
LCS's Reaching Out program, where Dean, to her left, checks on her daily to
make sure she is okay.
For her birthday, she decided to check off a bucket-list item,
which was to ride a small aircraft. East of Chapala, is a small private airport
where she flew in this Cessna 172, a single engine, four passenger craft.
She managed her first challenge, she got in. Dean flew along
in the back seat and they took off for a thirty minute flight over Lake Chapala
and the villages that make up Lakeside.
Her surprise came next. Once they landed, she was asked if she
wanted to ride in a powered glider and without any hesitation, she said yes and
up she went. This bucket list item, was truly accomplished!
Once Louise landed, the pilot asked if anyone else wanted to
fly and Glorine said yes. Here she is gearing up for what will probably be
the biggest adventure of 2026!
There she is! She said it was windy and now knew why she
was wearing that heavy wind jacket. She also helped steer the glider by pulling
up, down, left, and right on a control string attached to the wings
One of our walks along the beach near our home in San Antonia
Tlayacapan, we notice a full blown cactus garden with a dozen variety of
arid plants that make Mexico there home (but not native to Ajijic).
One final project for the season, was this handrail we had built
and installed for those who need it. The door was built in 2017 (when we bought
the house) and we decided they needed to share the same color.
