The first leg of this phase was to be with Carmen, Mike and Dakota in California to welcome our newest granddaughter--Little Miss Sierra Rose.

Grand parenting--this is one of the key things that makes retirement so wonderful. We got to spend a lot of time with Dakota. Not to brag, but she is a very bright and talkative little girl. And that comes, in part, to the busy life she leads. She takes swimming classes and attends art and music classes every week. And does a little home work (just kidding). Carmen and Mike are wonderful parents. Click on each picture for an enlarged view. | For our extended stay in Mexico, one of the "must do" is a Tourist Visa. So we stop by, rather than wait in lines at the border. When we arrived, we saw hundreds of people waiting to be served. We stopped one of the security guards to ask where we needed to go to get a tourist visa and were routed to a room with one couple in front of us. Everybody else waiting for service was working to get into or stay in this country. What an experience!!

AND finally the big day arrived. Little Sierra Rose was born on October 25th. She was 7 pounds, 7 ounces and 19" long. She has dark hair and lots of it. She is another cutie! Here is a collage of pictures taken the day of her birth. (Dakota getting a special band for being a big sister, Little Sierra Rose (about four hours old) and the new family of four.) | In addition to our family, we got to catch up with cousin Don Barth and his wife Elsie. They are also living the good life of retirement and dividing their time between California and Georgia, where (guess what) their children and grandchildren live.

Another special event we got to attend was Dakota's second birthday party. Carmen and Mike celebrated it at home with lots of their friends and their kids. The theme was Curious George, one of Dakota's favorite characters. | As we took off for a week in Arizona, we left Carmen to tend with her two beautiful girls--a two week old and two years old. What a busy life she leads! |
Arrived in California on Wednesday, October 17 and left for Arizona on Tuesday, October 30, 2007.
