Change is coming to Chapala. The recently elected officials are promoting the area as
a tourist destination for foreigners and Mexicans alike by designating Chapala as a "Magic City". |
March brought a ton of fundraising for great causes. The Shiners (focused on helping burn
victims) featured the Ajijic JAMM Band and all the BBQ ribs you
could eat. |

|
The Lake Chapala Society's conference room spotlighted posters created by
the Career Project that Glorine started. They also hang in all the primary
and junior and senior high schools near Ajijic. |
Just Chillin, a
favorite spot for expats closed at the end of this month. It was run by three 20 year olds from Cancun. We
were amused that they sported a t-shirt of our favorite college team.

Blue Jay Slim lit the house on fire one Saturday evening when he included two
saxophone and one trumpet musicians who were in town for the Northern Lights Festival. A mighty fine evening. |
After 17 Mondays
(November through March) we enjoyed our final gig at Adelita's Bar and Grill with friends, Margo and Jim, Mark and Bernice and their friends who flew in for a visit. |

Wednesday game night started with cards and drinks and evolved into a ginormous event including a four course dinner
with dessert. Here are the
usual suspects. |
This
mural on the steps leading from downtown Chapala to homes up on the mountain is
one of the things the city is doing to transform Chapala into a Magic City. |

One Sunday afternoon we had a dozen friends over for a pool party,
appetizers, dinner and drinks. Here we are winding down the evening as well as our time in Ajijic. |
Dr. Leon is one of 50+ speakers who gave up their time to share their life's
journey, along with information about their career at LCS's second annual Career Expo. It ran from 7 am to 7 pm. |
|
|
Speakers included architects, lawyers, auto mechanics, healthcare professionals, graphic designers, veterinarians, restaurant owners, horticulturists, etc. |
In addition to information about careers, second semester seniors had special sessions on personal finance, character building,
etc. and had an opportunity to visit with college recruiters. |
|
|
Wow, what a day! If 13 hours wasn't enough, we took a couple more hours to relax and enjoy dinner and margaritas with volunteers and friends who pitched in to help during the expo. |
During the Lake Chapala Society's Annual Business Meeting, both Ben White, President (at the podium) and Terry Vidal, Executive Director gave praises to the efforts of the Career Project. |

Rick and Kathy won "best
costume" at a St. Patrick's Day outing, although they were the only ones that came dressed! We were entertained by the Doo Wops (50s and 60s music.) Another fun evening in Ajijic. |
We caught this picture off the terrace of Kenny and Patty's condo,
people we just met on our recent trip to Colima. This view is another reason why Ajijic
is recognized as one of the best places to retire. |
|
|
Palm Sunday is the beginning of a week-long celebration that attracts thousands of faithful's to Ajijic to witness Mexico's finest
reenactments of the Passion Play. |
Hours before Jesus is to ride his donkey along the palm (alfalfa) line street, the plaza is filled
with thousands of people enjoying food, drink and the usual trinket vendors. |

Along with the Career Expo and time with friends, March included time for sorting, tossing, storing and packing items we brought with or purchased here. This is what we are taking back. |
We
spent Easter weekend in California with Carmen, Mike and the grandkids. This is
Huntington beach, one of their favorite places to play. They seem to be enjoying
digging in the sand. |
|
|
We joined Carmen and Mike at their friends home for Easter Sunday. It was a typical beautiful
day in sunny California and we enjoyed grilled chicken, salmon and shrimp for Easter dinner. |
The kids enjoyed the pool and the hidden hot tub behind the waterfall. They especially enjoyed jumping into the pool. Here Sierra and Hunter are taking turns jumping from the
high cliffs. |
|
|
Penny came with and when not being entertained by Hunter was having a fun time with the dog of the house. Penny did not appreciate it a bit when Mike threw her into the pool. |
After dinner, the kids went on a traditional Easter Egg Hunt, filled with candy and fruit. After all the eggs were found, Carmen added to the tradition by passing out
books to all the kids. |
