September—Chase's Birthday Month

The idea of "not missing a single birthday of our grandkids" turned out to be the best idea we could have come up with as we went Roaming through Retirement!

The Minnesota State Fair has one of the best fairs in the country.  Chase loved the Lumber Jack show.  This Minneapolis Moline tractor reminded Larry of the many hours he spent doing his chores as a kid.

Labor Day was spent at Kamp Dels, which has one of the best fun water parks in MN.  We all took our turns climbing this 20' glass rock wall.  Denise was the only one that made it to the top.

Donavan Schwichtenburg, Larry's former colleague, is a cousin of the owner of Kamp Dels. He took us on a tour of Waterville including this nearby gun store. Denise celebrated her birthday while we were there, but she spent much more time prepping for Chase's birthday than on her own.

Patty and Paul, Larry's niece hosted a dinner including her folks, Jack and MaryAnn and sister Nancy and Jeff. It was great time. Hockey and hockey practice filled as many days in September as was August.  Seems like it is becoming a year round sport.

Chase's birthday party theme was Angry Birds and one of the activities was for the kids to make an origami.  Craig built this massive slingshot, used in the Angry Bird game.   Clara destroyed lots of pigs!

The weather was great, which made time on the lake a hit for all the kids.  While the kids were on the boat and the 'lily pad', the adults partied on the pontoon.

The party lasted into the evening and finally Chase got to open his many presents.   After blowing out the candles, it was time to watch the movie Angry Bird and they got to watch it outdoors.

Glorine's nephew Tim and Nancy met us at Buffalo Wild Wings to catch up and keep up with NFL football scores.  On Chase's actual birthday, we toured some of his special places in the Twin Cities, including this bookstore.  No, he is not that tall--the door is short!

While the bookstore was a hit, this Silkie chicken which has fine hair rather than feathers was fun to play with.  Denise was one of the speakers at an open house at the Dermatology practice where she works. We learned a lot about sun screen--nice job!

The more we attended Clara and Chase's games the more we appreciated the skills they possess.   September is a great time to celebrate Octoberfest, which Larry and Craig took in in downtown St. Paul.

We bought this 20" bike to upgrade Chase from his 16" bike.  Hopefully he won't outgrow it within a year. It took three tries for Larry to get up and it was as invigorating as it was when he began 40 years ago.

Ok it only took one try for Glorine to get up, but she is one year and three months younger! While in ND, we toured the major protest of Native Americans trying to stop the oil pipeline through ancient burial grounds.  Stay tuned!

This was the second wedding of Glorine's niece's daughter, Lynn and Randy.  Both were fun to attend.   And no one could have been prouder than Grandma Marlene--enjoying time with sister Glorine.

September's web page includes September 1 through September 30.
