September--Family Immersion Time

After our trip to Ajijic, we spent a fun filled time at Carmen's place in California and Denise's place in Minnesota. Our biggest surprise was the arrival of Denise's baby Chase Matthew who was born on September 13. He was due in October. More on him in a bit.

Let's not be strangers! Click here to give us your update. Larry and Glorine.

Labor Day was a family get together in California. This gave Dakota an opportunity to share her toys with her cousin Clara. Disneyland is about 20 minutes south of Carmen's place and a great place to spend an exciting day, especially with the grandkids. We even got a chance for a family photo. Click to enlarge.

The Disney parade is a BIG event, displaying most of the characters that made Disney so famous. We got a front row seat. After standing in line for about an hour, the girls had a "private audience" with Mickey Mouse. He signed their autograph books and in return each gave Mickey a kiss on the nose.

There are rides for every age group and with the grandkids, we stuck with Dumpy, Tea Cup, etc. The next day, Carmen and Mike's friends invited all of us to a pool party where we were able to squeeze in another family photo. Click to enlarge.

Sierra loves the water and is learning to swim with daddy at the nearby YMCA. Dakota is in another part of the pool taking private lesson. Every Thursday evening, Fullerton hosts a combination "live after five" party and farmers market. Here Carmen gets most of the organic fruits and vegetables that she does not already grow in her own garden. Here Nana and Sierra are taking in the sights and sounds of the market place.

Toys, toys, toys. Dakota and Sierra love to play with their toys. Reading time is very special, although we think Dakota has all the words memorized and we are just going through the motions. It was a great time! After a hard day of work in the garden, Carmen's next door neighbor must have taken pity on us, so she invited us over to take a dip in the pool. Relaxing is a good thing.

Back to Minnesota to spend more time with Denise, Craig and Clara. Here are all of Clara's grandparents. Craig's step dad Al, his Mom Cheri, and Cheri's Mom--Florence (everyone calls her Grandma Z) and Clara and us. Reading is one of Clara's favorite pass times and Grandpa Larry just loves reading to her (small words and lots of pictures).

We took a side excursion to Nebraska to visit Larry's brother Bob and his family. Here is Glorine with her niece Roslyn (George's daughter). She lives in Omaha where we got to spend a couple of days. We made it in time to celebrate little Gracie officially becoming a Barnhardt. Greg and Beth (who also live in Omaha) adopted her in January. Here is her Mom and Dad, Jerry and Eleanor Knudson and Greg's Mom and Dad, Jack and Mary Ann.

We were in the middle of our trip to Nebraska and got a call from Denise that Baby Chase was coming early. So we cut our trip to Nebraska short and raced back to Minnesota to meet little baby Chase Matthew. Here he was about 12 hours old. What a delight! Grandma and Grandpa got to hold him and catch some pictures with him and Clara. It was hard to believe how big Clara had gotten since we left just a few days earlier, or maybe it was seeing how little Chase was.

All arrived home safe and sound. Clara just loves her baby brother and fills him with hugs and kisses every chance she gets. The later part of September was gorgeous, which meant lots of time on and about the lake. "Grandma is having too much fun with Clara's bubbles."

We took in another day at the zoo and spent extra time at the farm. It brought back lots of memories for Larry, but Clara jumped right in to doing some of the chores like feeding the goats. The pontoon (with its 25 hp Evenrude) turned out to be a great water toy for Denise, Craig, Clara and Chase and their dogs Pebbles and BamBam. It has lots of room to roam around and quiet enough to enjoy time visiting.

We brought September to an end with one more time on water skies. The water was a bit cool, but that didn't stop us from adding to our adventure. Here is Glorine, skiing with Denise's wet suit. Nice, but the water was still cold.
