With little baby Hunter Michael Barnhardt, we now have five grand children. Dakota is 4, Clara is 3, Sierra is 2, Chase is 1 and now Hunter, born on February 18. He weighed in at 7 lbs, 4 oz and 20" long. He is such a delight. We spent most of February in California to be with our daughter and her family as they transition into a family of five. Yes, Life is Good!!

We left Ajijic early on February 1 and drove mostly in the rain until passing Guadalajara. It was another grand trip filled with great memories of wonderful people we met along the way back to the states. This beautiful picture was taken just west of Tequila. | RUTA 2010 is a sign seen throughout Mexico. It is in recognition of Mexico's 200th anniversary of the beginning of a ten year conflict to gain independence from Spain. It is also the 100th anniversary of the uprising against a longtime autocrat, which finally led to the Mexican Constitution of 1917.
Another reason we left in early February was a surprise 40th birthday party for our daughter Carmen. She was not all that happy about it after begging her husband Mike not to have one. | The party was hosted at an Eastern Indian Restaurant and Mike made sure that the girls and Carmen were dressed appropriately for the event. Here is Dakota fully decked out with Indian fashion.
Here is the family in there Indian garb (including their nanny, Felicia), although Dakota was getting tired and ready for bed. | The time did not affect Sierra. Here she is singing Happy Birthday to mommy with about 40 of their guest singing along. It was a fun night of fine Indian food and dancing.
Glorine brought back a couple of gifts for the girls. The dress Dakota is wearing is used in traditional Ballet Folkloric Mexican dances. She loved it. | A treat for all the sweethearts in the family. Although Hunter was due on Valentine's day, that did not stop us from showering the girls with flowers and candy.
A special treat was double heart shaped pancakes that were very good. | Mike out did himself by hiring a barber shop quartet to serenade our sweet hearts.
And by the looks on their faces, they enjoyed the special treat. | While most of the USA was experiencing less than kind weather, we had a couple of 80 degree days which the girls took full advantage of.
Carmen and Mike have this enormous sun room used for all sorts of fun events for the girls. Here they are tenting-do you call that camping?? | And what every child needs is a battery operated JEEP. Sierra, the youngest, has a better grasp of driving it.
And what would a visit be with Grandma and Grandpa, without a trip to Chucky Cheese. We don't know what is it about this place but they love it. | And along came Hunter. After waiting for four days beyond his due date, Carmen checked into the same hospital they had the girls and gave birth around 8 p.m. on the 18th.
We were tickled pink (in this case blue) to be there and help out as best we could. Proud Grandma was looking on as Carmen was holding Hunter. | Introduction to the family. This picture was taken within moments of the girls first laying their eyes on their new baby brother. They showered him with hugs and kisses.
With all the ruckus, baby Hunter manage to take a few naps. What a sweetie! | Daddy Mike got a change to get some alone time with him the night of his arrival to his new home.
And Grandpa would not let the opportunity pass to hold him and welcome him into the Barnhardt clan. | The girl took a little bit of adjusting but as you can see here, the girls have warmed up to baby Hunter. We thought this would be a great time for some bonding time for the family.
So we took an extended weekend to visit Larry's sister Claudia and Lou and shop around for a newer motor home. | Three days later and after stepping into and test driving about 25 motor homes, we settled on this 39 foot diesel pusher with 3 sliders.
This motor coach is a Fleetwood Discovery and includes lots of storage, a washer and dryer, and all of the creature comforts one could ask for. We will be featuring more of it in March. | Back in California, Grandpa was on Call and here he is snoozing on duty with baby Hunter (he's just pretending). Yes, February was a "game changer" for us--five grandchildren, a new home and endless opportunities as we continue to Roam through Retirement. |
February's web page includes February 1 through February 28.
