After a couple of months focused on "letting go" June was all about getting on with our retirement. Here we are crossing the border into our home base. South Dakota is among the most user friendly state when it comes to expats and full-time RVers. This includes a new mailing address, new license plates, driver's licenses and vehicle insurance and about everything else that makes "state residency" of South Dakota legal.

Before leaving Boise, we spent a couple of hours with Ralph Dean, Program Head of the Truck Driving program that Larry once administered. Using our RV, Ralph taught us a lot about maneuvering in traffic, making left and right turns, backing up and keeping it between the lines. Glorine did amazingly great both in the driving yard and on the road. | We stopped along the border of Wyoming and South Dakota to capture this picture of the Jeep, the RV and the U-Haul trailer which holds our life's possessions. And some of the stuff in the trailer goes to our daughter Denise.
After settling into Fish Lake Acres, a campground near Denise's place--it was on to grand parenting duties. And nothing could be more special than helping out with a birthday party. Clara turned four on the first day of summer. The theme was Tinker Bell and most of her friends came dressed for the occasion. | A birthday party on the lake is always a hit. Denise prepared lots of games from beach treasure hunts to "pretend" tattoos
A Tinker Bell cake made of chocolate was a hit. | And if you don't believe us, ask Clara.
As the party wound down, we got this picture taken with Clara and Chase. | And one with Denise and Craig.
Each summer, a few of the people who were in leadership roles at St. Cloud Technical College while Larry worked there get together for a reunion. Ken and Sue Maddux is in the center and Bob and Sharon Larson (our hosts) are on the right. Now that we are all retired, it is sure nice to get together and focus on things not related to work. | While in St. Cloud, we took a spin out to Lake Watab (which we called home for six years). Still a beautiful neighborhood. Here is a picture of one of our neighbors, Bill and Jean Fahrney. They just happen to be the grandparents of the realtor in Boise who helped us sell our condo. It sure is a small world.
On Father's Day, Denise and Craig rode their bikes (with the kids in tow) to Fish Lake Campground. Along with good food and playing games with the kids, Larry and Craig got to open presents. | Being lake dwellers, swimming is a necessary skill. Here Clara is learning the art of kicking. It is one of two swim schools she was attending while we were there.
Watching them swim is fun, but being in the pool with them as they learn different techniques is a very special treat. | Larry's niece Nancy and her growing family of four live near Denise's place. Their second son, Drew, celebrated his graduation from high school and as important, his acceptance into the University of Minnesota. Congratulations, Drew and thanks for the invitation to celebrate your accomplishments!
Clara had a big birthday party, but not on her birthdate. So when she actually turned four it was time for more treats at a local bakery. And wouldn't you know it, they had a Tinker Bell candle to make it extra special. | After her special doughnut, Clara got her "first" hair cut ever. After it was all over, it did not look like she had any cut off. We guess she wants to take after her Mommy, who also has very long hair.
Every time Grandma comes visiting, the kids love to help her make brownies. This time it was a special treat--Banana Muffins. Hmmmmmm!! | We drove the Jeep to Nebraska to help celebrate Larry's brother Bob and his wife Francie's 50th wedding anniversary. Here they are after renewing their vows.
Big events like this means lots of parties. Half the town of Waverly came out for one of them. Here is Bob and Francie with their six kids and most of their ten grandkids. | The big event also brought in all the Bob's brothers and sisters. Left to Right are LORRAINE, LILLIAN, JACOB and Maryann, Lou and CLAUDIA, BOB and Francie and Glorine and LARRY.
Each Thursday, Prior Lake hosts a concert in the park. Denise and the kids took us on the pontoon to the city slips, then a stroll up a pathway to the park. Clara and Chase danced a lot and ran around the park entertaining lots of the spectators. The music was classic oldies. Another fun night with the grand kids. | While Grandma was baking banana muffins and brownies with the kids, Grandpa was called to "other duties, as assigned." Here Chase is overseeing the project to make sure he was doing it correctly. Stay tuned to July's website to see the finished project. |
