Mt. Rushmore
We spent the weekend visiting Glorine's family, but took some time to visit one of South Dakota's great monuments--Mount Rushmore! Speaking of presidents, we had a chance to catch up with Dr. Chuck Ruch (former president of Boise State University) and his wife Sally. Chuck is currently the president of the South Dakota College of Mines.

Lewis and Clark Glorine and overlook
Our travels through South Dakota took us to an overlook on the Missouri River. Here is a commemoration of the 200th anniversary of when Lewis and Clark did their expedition in this area. Click to enlarge. We took time to take in the breath taking overview of the Missouri River valley and one of the towns that sprang up along the river. It also gave us a chance to catch up with family and friends while we had cell service.
Larry and overlook Hart Ranch
Of all the states we traveled through, South Dakota had the best rest stops. They were nicely designed with replica of TeePees signifying their Native American history. They were all staffed where they promoted everything from Wall Drug to Mount Rushmore. One the best campgrounds/resorts in tne country is the Hart Ranch, outside of Rapid City. Along with the great fishing stream, it has an 18 hole golf course and within miles of all the sites of the Black Hills.
tunnel Mt. Rushmore
Once we entered the Mount Rushmore National Park, we left the tourist traps and drove through the beauty of the Black Hills. Larry and Glorine at the monument, taken by a tourist from Kentucky.
flag Sally's Family
Lining the entrance to Mount Rushmore, was the "parade of flags." We caught a picture of Idaho's flag blowing in the breeze. Our primary destination was to visit Glorine's sister Sally and her family in Rapid City. Of her six children, three live in the area. From right to left is Cindy, Peter, Sally, Tammie, and her husband Jeff, and of course Glorine.
Sally and Glorine Sally's house
Along with being a hard worker, Sally is a GREAT cook. Here she is sharing recipes with Glorine. This ain't your grandpa's trailer house. It is a beautiful double wide mobile home that Sally has upgraded into a wonderfully designed home and yard.
