We timed the final days of this phase of our retirement to get home to Boise for the opening game of the Boise State football game against Weber State (Utah). We took three days to tour some of the West's great sites. Let's not be strangers, so send us an update by clicking on the email link Larry and Glorine.
If you can image, about 500,000 years ago, the surface of the top soil was hundreds of feet higher than the top of Devil's Tower. It is the remains of volcanic lava with all the earth being washed out around it. | Because of the raw beauty of the tower, it was named America's first National Park.
Click to enlarge! No this is not Larry nor Glorine. The tower is a favorite spot for adventurist who like doing this kind of stuff. | Our level of adventure is walking around the base of the Tower, using our new "Nordic Walking Poles." It is great exercise and keeps you from falling over.
If we saw one deer driving through Wyoming, we saw 1,000. This is truly where the deer and the antelope play. | One of our favorite spots in Southeast Idaho is Lava Hot Springs. Click to enlarge.
There are four pools that make up the Hot Spring, with varying temperatures--102, 105, 107 and 112. Glorine did not make it past 107 and Larry only stood in the 112 degree water for a few minutes. Click to enlarge. | Here is Glorine relaxing in 102 degree pool. After a long drive in the RV, this water sure felt good.
Most of the southern part of Idaho is either mountains or high desert. The mighty Snake River winds itself from Wyoming, through Idaho and dumps into the Columbia River in Washington. This picture is taken outside of Twin Falls on our way to Jackpot, Nevada. | This water is the life blood for the farmers in the west. So if you are lucky to be 20 miles (plus or minus) on either side of the Snake River there are green field of every imaginable crop.
Beyond the Snake River, this is the typical view, sage brush and sand. | We had such a great time in all of our travels over these past 2-1/2 months, we had to try our luck at our favorite casino--Cactus Petes in Jackpot, Nevada.
Play Me!! | |||
While we had a great time, the machines were not on our side that night. It looks like we can not count on gambling being our supplemental retirement income. | We did it. We made it back to Boise just in time for some Boise State football. We played Weber State and beat them 56 to 7. Here is a clip of the city, foothills and the stadium. GO BRONCOS!!!!! |
Arrived in Boise, Idaho on Thursday, August 30 and left for Oregon and Washington on Friday, August, 31, 2007.
