After six months in our winter playground of Ajijic, we arrived back in California for some quality time with Carmen, Mike, Dakota, Sierra, and Hunter. This picture of Glorine, Carmen and Hunter was taken on Mother's Day at their friends' home. We took advantage of the pool and hot tub in the background. These May highlights include three glorious weeks with Carmen and a weeklong road trip through California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Dakota, our oldest grandchild is just finishing the first grade. Here she is (in the center of this picture) playing a role in Dr. Seuss’s book "Sneetches on Beaches" where the Star-Belly Sneetches had bellies with stars and Plain-Belly Sneetches had none upon theirs." | Dakota (far left) is with her Daisy group and displaying their craft project where they created a bouquet of flowers for Mother's Day. Carmen is the troop leader which she thoroughly enjoys.
Sierra, here with her infectious smile, is spending time with Nana at one of her favorite museums near Fullerton. Hard to believe, but she will be in Kindergarten this fall. | We celebrated Cinco de Mayo in San Clemente. Dakota and Sierra got to pose with this man who was getting ready to perform the dance of "The Old Men."
After the celebration, we went to the San Clemente Pier where we watched dozens of surfer catching one more wave for the day. | After a great meal at Fishermen's Wharf, we walked along the pier, enjoyed some ice cream and got this picture with a sun setting in the background.
One morning Papa Larry took Hunter to a preschool program called Gymboree where he gets lots of sensory stimulation. It was lots of fun. | Down on the Farm, Sierra is learning about farm animals. Here she is with Nana coming around the final stretch to the finish line.
We met up with Ajijic friends, Phil and Mary, who also have a daughter, son-in-law and grandson living in Fullerton. They live in Upstate New York and do lots of traveling. | Dakota and Sierra are part of the YMCA Adventure Guide, an organization where dads and their daughters bond and create lasting memories. Here we just finished playing "laser tag." Mike will be the new troop leader this fall.
The kids our enjoying Mother's Day with their friends Mia and Avery. Here they are taking a break from swimming and enjoying a treat. | When they are not out and about, Dakota, Sierra and Hunter play together in their outdoor play area. This sand park is their most recent additions.
Another week and another day down on the farm. Here Sierra and Carmen are learning about wool and the animals it comes from. | We wrapped up our last week in California at Ramona Canyon RV Park, near San Diego where we rented a park model. Here is Dakota balancing herself on this canyon rock.
Hunter is all boy and loves living life to its fullest, regardless of how many bumps and bruises it costs. | Here the family is prepping for a hike to find some rare gems in the hills outside of San Diego. Sierra found some before the hike began.
One more swim before heading back to Fullerton. These three weeks flew by faster than we thought possible. | After leaving Carmen's, we drove to Oakland to spend the night with Ajijic friends Chuck and Jean. The next day we all drove to Healdsburg to meet up with another Ajijic friend--Sueki.
The Seghesio Family Vineyards near Healdsburg was a great place to sample good wine and catch up with each other's adventures. | These vineyards reminded us of those we saw along the River Rhine in Germany 15 years ago.
Exploring this part of California brought us to some specular sights. | Here we are in Oregon with Brian, Claudia and Lou exploring the Spruce Goose Museum near McMinnville.
Over Memorial weekend, we RVed in Wenatchee, WA where all those great apples come from. | Here is Larry with cousin Jerry Barnhardt, who joined us in our first RV outing of the season.
Our last stop in May was where we spent ten wonderful years, prior to retirement--Boise, ID. Here we are with Steve, our neighbor and chef extraordinaire. | It always exciting to learn all the adventures others are having. Marilyn and Ron are no exception.
While working at Boise State, Larry helped promote the creation of a new community college. After retiring, the College of Western Idaho was formed and now serves 7,500 students annually. One of the benefits of this new college, is modern, state-of-the-art laboratories shown here. | While Larry was a part of the dream, his former colleagues--Brian, Cathy, Shirl and Dennis, did much of the heavy lifting by starting the community college "From Scratch" and shaping it into the dynamic institution it is today. Larry is very impressed and proud of their accomplishments. |
