On our final leg into North Dakota, Glorine took over driving duties and wheeled our 63 feet of RV and dingy into Dickinson. | There, we spend time with Lorraine and Frank. Here the twins are posing with one of the displays of collectables Lorraine and Frank have created in their home.
We saw displays of these earth lodges in museums in Regina, Saskatchewan and Great Falls, Montana and decided to drive south of Mandan to see the real thing where thousands of Plain Indians once called home. | Bob and Diane Schlosser have been childhood friends of ours. Here we finished an evening at their home west of Mandan, close to where Bob and Larry attended 4H. Diane and Glorine were high school classmates.
Don and Diane Roloff invited us and Dennis and Betty Steele to a wonderful evening filled with great food and wine and a new card game called Crown Five. | On Labor Day Weekend, we spent time at the cabin. This one owned by James and LeeAnn Barnhardt on Lake Tschida, about 60 miles west of Mandan. Randy and Marla joined us for a warm and wonderful sunny day at the lake.
This Limbo Stick was meant for the kids, but the adults got into the action. Here Glorine is showing how agile she is. | Here James and LeeAnn are prepping for a sunset cruise. Their 21 foot boat has a V8 inboard and lots of room for guests.
On our cruise of the Lake, we saw this unusual formation of rock and dirt left behind as the river transitioned into this wonderful recreation lake. | After setting up the RV at the KOA campground in Mandan, we had family out for Happy Hour. Randy and Marla and Glorine's nephew Dennis and Natalie joined us.
We wound down our week in the Bismarck area with Larry's family Martin, Gloria, Lil, Jack and MaryAnn at a spaghetti feed at the VFW. | On to Rice Lake State Park, south of the Twin Cities where we met up with Denise, Craig, Clara and Chase. It was a small park, but had some great hiking trails through the forest.
Nothing like a cook out.... | And how about those SMORES.... The marshmallows were gigantic!
Chase and Grandpa got to learn about the Eastern Hognose Snake of Minnesota, which is much different than Western Hognose Snakes. | Chase got to celebrate his birthday with all his friend at Rocking Horse Ranch daycare center.
Chase's birthday theme was pirates and here the kids are loading up with cannon balls to sink approaching ships. | Grandpa Larry got to take the kids on a treasure hunt to find the clues to the hidden chest of gold.
After making birthday wishes, the kids lined up for birthday cake. | Pinatas are a tradition at the kid's birthdays but this ship shaped pinata with stood many attempts of being hammered by Chase and his friends.
Taking a break to thank Mommy and Daddy for the great birthday party. | Group photo with friends on the park.
Rocking Horse Ranch has programs where the kids learned about all sorts of small animals like this gecko that Chase is holding. | Back in the RV the kids entertained themselves by trying on some of Grandma's many hats.
Chase at skating lessons and he keeps getting better all the time. Before long, he will be doing this with a hockey stick. | We joined up with friends from St. Cloud. Glorine, Jane and Jerry met while working on their Master's degree.
A Twin Cities cousins get together. Brent, Bryndon, Denise, Patty and Nancy are five of the 25 cousins on the Barnhardt side. | Uncle Larry goofing off with his family, while they were posing for this picture in Bryndon and Erik's backyard.
One way to see the "turning of the leaves" is by boat. Here we are cruising Prior Lake with the pontoon. What a splendid day to say farewell to summer. | We had a farewell dinner with Denise, Craig, Clara and Chase at Captain Jacks, a restaurant on the lake near their home. |
